Going electronic

So with the baby coming along I've got to start clearing the office and eventually make it into a proper babys bedroom etc.

One step at a time, I still have 2 full filing cabinets of paperwork and things and that's all going to have to go. So, with a bit of help from Scanout and my £20 scanner I'm going electronic with almost all of the paperwork being confined to the shredder!

It will be an interesting experiment to see if it works or not but it may take me a while to scan 4 years of everything!

Long time no post

Wow, it's been a while since my last post, this has been a busy summer!

I downloaded a few photos I took on my new BlackBerry (the Curve / 8300) and thought I'd get my August postings off to a bit of a start with one of my faves

As well as standing at stations this month I've been prepping for the Thundercrawl in September and trying to get the team organised. Everything is coming together and we now have a really well kitted out Volvo Estate for our journey. And it seems we're coming back via the Oktoberfest in Munich too so it should be much fun!

It begins

Say hello to EOT.

She's a 1987 Volvo 740 GLE Estate and she's mine!

Phill (over at BFPhoto) found her on Ebay so yesterday we took a trip to Bristol to pick her up.

Why?

EOT will be our chosen chariot for the September Thundercrawl (see earlier posts). She'll be taking 4 20-somethings on a 1,000 mile trek across Europe (and back again) and as she was only £112 it was too good an oppourtunity to miss.

What next?

Once we have a team blog up and running I'll be posting the URL, team details, what we're going to do with the car etc (think gadgets on a massive scale).

Until then, keep an eye out for me on the back of an AA lorry!

Crumball Rally - Thundercrawl

It's an exciting day today, Plus Development has just announced it will be sponsoring a team for the "Crumball Rally - Thundercrawl" to raise money for Cancer Research in September (http://plusdev.blogspot.com).

Thundercrawl is the brainchild of the Crumball Rally Co (http://www.crumballrally.com/t_p/home.htm) and involves driving hundreds of miles across Europe in a sub-£200 car. Hopefully we'll make it to the finishing point in Venice (after crossing France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and the Alps), and hopefully we'll be able to raise lots of money for Cancer Research.

The team is being finalised at the moment and we'll be hunting out a vehicle in the next few months (if you happen to know of anyone getting rid of an old Volvo Estate or similar please let me know!).

When we've confirmed the team, we'll be putting up a team blog which will be updated before, during and probably after the event.

In the mean time, I'll get some sponsorship forms printed up and see if we can accept sponsorships online too.

More updates coming soon!

"Cuddillow" or "Cuddisweat"?

Travelodge have announced the launch of a new pillow, aimed at lonely guests who are travelling solo. The "Cuddillow" is longer than a normal pillow and has "arms" to cuddle up with.

Awwww, isn't that nice!

Think about it a bit more though...

1. These Cuddilows are currently only available on request (although they are free to use). So you've got to go to reception and actually say "Have you got one of those Cuddilows please?". You might as well say "I know I'm a suited and booted 30-something businessman but I miss my wife and need a cuddle". Hmmm ... I think I'll pass!

2. Pillows, like mattresses, can absorb sweat, not to mention other (more harmful) things. Sure hotels supposedly wash pillows regularly, and pillow cases should (yes, should) be clean on each time you book into a hotel room, but do you really want to be hugging that 2 1/2 foot long fabric lump when you think what it could contain? Hmmm ... again I think I'll pass!

I commend the idea but I would be very suprised if these things took off in hotels.

Now to have one at home for the wife whilst you're away on business... maybe that's a better idea?
